! DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR MUSICAL SUBMISSIONS !
! SEPTEMBER 10th, 2014 / 11:59 PM !
September 18 – 20, 2014
NHF’s 66th Annual Meeting
Why is the extended deadline only for music?
Music files don’t need to be shipped!
The upload form will only accept .mp3 and .m4a files until the final deadline.
We apologize but we can no longer accept any visual artworks due to shipping & coordinating constraints. Big thanks and congrats to the over 60 (!!) folks who sent in their work!
Call For Art:
We invite anyone with ties to the bleeding disorder community to participate in the exhibition using the online form below to submit their work.
Please take a few moments to carefully read the Terms of Entry. Also, learn more about FOLX’s mission, the jurying process and all submission requirements. If there are any questions about FOLX / Blood Work or if you’re experiencing any technical issues using this website to submit, please contact Justin Levesque (firstname.lastname@example.org).[/pt_text]
FOLX has joined forces with bleeder music aficionados Blood Vibrations to bring their recent compilations of music from the community to the exhibition. We couldn’t be more excited to have this opportunity. FOLX will construct an interactive exhibition experience that viewers can browse through, listen to full-length music tracks and learn more about both the musicians and Blood Vibrations. In their honor and out of respect for the great work they’ve already accomplished in music, FOLX is calling this experience the Blood Vibrations Listening Center. Please note: Musical submissions do not need to have previously participated in a Blood Vibrations project and should submit their entry using the form below. But we highly encourage you consider including your work in a future Blood Vibrations compilation.[/pt_text]
FOLX aims to promote the inclusion, visibility and empowerment of people from diverse backgrounds within the bleeding disorders community. We find the manifestation most suited to address these concepts can be found in the many tributaries of creative expression. FOLX wishes to support additional versions of success from arts & music to activism & ingenuity. This recognition is important in remaining diligently inclusive of diverse approaches to living with a bleeding disorder. FOLX is run by Justin Levesque (Advocacy Director) and Philip Smith (Education Director).
What is a Juried Exhibition?
For our purposes, juried simply means that all submissions will be reviewed by a three person panel to ensure the content of all works on display meet a pre-determined criteria. Juried exhibitions are a long standing tradition in the creative world and part of the experience we’re presenting is a chance to participate in that process.
The criteria is as follows:
1) NHF’s Annual Meeting is a community event. Therefore, subject matter must be appropriate for all ages. Entries containing profanity, violence or nudity will not be accepted. Decisions regarding subject matter are at the sole discretion of the jury and cannot be appealed.
2) This is a BIG opportunity to showcase creativity in the bleeding disorders community. However, there is a LIMITED amount of space available to properly hang the exhibition. You have to start somewhere, right? In lieu of sacrificing a thoughtful visual cadence, jurors with consider how well each entry relates to the other submissions. This is how exhibition curators consciously create conversations between artworks. At the point when available space is exhausted, this process will finish.
3) Lastly, the jury will take an active approach to select works that include a diverse representation of voices from the entire community.
But do not worry:
All submissions will be exhibited in an online digital archive as participants in this inaugural event. Further, any entries not in the physical exhibition will be immediately considered for The Art Stars Trading Card Series: Volume 3.
Blood Work’s 2014 Jury Panel is as follows:
Ayana Woods, MPH National Hemophilia Foundation Director of Education
Kate E. McMahon, PhD Candidate, Howard University
Justin Levesque, BFA FOLX Founding Director / Working Artist

All accepted entries will not be for sale (NFS) during the Annual Meeting. Often viewers will associate a price with quality. We want folks to avoid this scenario and enjoy each piece in the show without bias. However, if someone is interested in purchasing a piece from the exhibition, we will be happy to facilitate that conversation after the conference. FOLX is also willing to help individuals price work should you need assistance.
